Georgetown Announces 2008 Commencement Speakers

Georgetown has released the list of 2008 commencement speakers. Joel I. Klein, Chancellor, New York City Department of Education, will speak at the Law Center ceremony, which will be held Sunday, May 18.

The law school is less than a mile from the Capitol and the Supreme Court... one would think we could entice someone a little bit more topical and interesting.

He was Asst. AG of the United States in charge of the Antitrust Division. He prosecuted the DOJ's antitrust case against Microsoft. He also clerked for Justice Powell. I suppose it is a case of his current position not being as relevant to Non-NYC law students as his prior positions.

Agreed. The school ought to pitch his resume more than his current job.

I agree that being Asst. AG and prosecuting Microsoft is a bigger deal than his current position.

I have to say I'm disappointed. He's a very far cry from Justice Roberts. Not sure if Georgetown likes to try to keep some variety with it's speakers (CJ Roberts, N. Totenberg, J. Klien). But I think we'd all prefer to have someone with a little more stature every year. Ah to have graduated in 2006!
