State historic preservation officers carry out the national historic preservation program as delegates of the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act (16 USC 470 et seq).
Each state's preservation program is designed to identify, evaluate, register, and preserve the state's historic and cultural resources. Statewide historic preservation plans are approved by the National Park Service as meeting program requirements.
Access the plan for the District of Columbia on the Historic Preservation Office's website.
