This page connects you to some resources to help you during the first year of law school. Anytime you have questions about any aspect of legal research or using the Library, feel free to contact the Reference Desk, in person (we're in the Reading Room), by phone at 202-662-9140, or online.
Georgetown Law faculty may use one of three types of course management web-based software. Below are links for all three:
Photocopying. Photocopy machines are on every floor of the library. You need your GoCard to make copies, which are $.08/page.
Printing. Printers are located throughout the libraries. Prints are $.10/page. You need your GoCard to print.
Lexis/Westlaw. Lexis & Westlaw passwords are distributed at orientation, & afterwards at the Reference Desks. Printing from Lexis & Westlaw is free. Lexis & Westlaw printers are located on the 4th floor of Williams in Rm 435A, & in Wolff Rm 4011.
GoCard. You may add money to your GoCard in the copy rooms on the 3rd & 4th floors of Williams & near Wolff Library in the Fitness Center lobby. You may also add money online.
In conjunction with the Legal Research and Writing Faculty, the Williams Reference Staff developed a number of online legal research tutorials to teach you the important research skills you'll need to succeed in school and in practice. Try our Treaties Research Tutorial to learn more about researching treaties.
When you are looking for a treatise on a specific topic, such as Torts Law or Employment Law, start with our Treatise Finder for a listing of the preeminent treatises, as well as nutshells and other helpful sources.
Need a more comprehensive guide to a specific research topic or technique? Visit our In Depth Research page for links to guides international and foreign law topics, as well as guides on U.S. federal and state topics. Some of our most popular international guides include From GATT to WTO, Human Rights Law, International Trade Law and Introduction to International Law.
