Williams Circulation On Call Student Assistant
For On Call students, the hours are not guaranteed each week. We need students who are flexible and can work evenings and weeks when the regular person is not available. These hours include Friday 5PM-12 Midnight and Saturday 4PM -10PM.
Student assistants work in the Access Services department as Circulation Desk Assistants and Media Student assistants. The overall goal of the Circulation Department is to support the academic and intellectual life of the Georgetown Community by providing quality public service.
Circulation Desk Assistants
The student assistant is responsible for the services relating to the borrowing privileges of the library patrons. Students also assist in the maintenance of the Reserve collection.
Responsibilities
1. Assist patrons at the Circulation Desk, answer informational inquiries, and provide effective service to all library patrons.
2. Refer patrons to the correct departments for non-circulation inquiries
3. Perform circulation transactions according to library policies.
4. Resolve unusual problems and disputes appropriately.
5. Shelve all Reserve material when returned to the Circulation Desk.
6. Check the work shelf for incoming periodicals upon arrival. Shelve the journals in the Reserve collection.
7. Date and file slip opinions as they arrive.
8. Shelf-read the assigned sections of the Reserve collection.
9. Other projects as assigned.
Ability to communicate effectively. Attention to detail. Previous experience in library desirable but not essential. Structured work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
